 Message from David Tripp

Welcome to my new web site, and my new blog.  In the coming months, I hope to use this blog to write about legal issues (and perhaps a few non-legal issues) that may be of interest to my clients and other readers.

A few words about my practice and about me.  I started my legal career as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.  After leaving government service, I worked for a large national law firm and a few smaller firms, specializing in complex commercial litigation.

Anyone who has been named in a lawsuit can tell you that litigation is a long, stressful, risky, and expensive process.  I soon realized that many of the lawsuits I handled could have been avoided if my clients had been better advised about how they conducted their business or the way they negotiated their contracts.  It eventually dawned on me that the most valuable service I could provide to my clients was not my expertise as a trial lawyer – it was advice they could use to avoid litigation in the first place.

I began using my experience as a litigator to counsel clients how to manage their business affairs in order to reduce the chances that litigation would be necessary:  how to organize their businesses, how to negotiate their contracts, how to handle government regulations and investigations, and how to deal with the many issues that arise between employers and employees.

I established the Law Offices of David G. Tripp in 1998, concentrating on business law and commercial litigation.  The firm has represented  individual business people as well as small, medium, and large businesses in a broad array of industries, including information technology companies, government contractors, health care institutions, banks and financial advisors, manufacturers, restaurants, and retailers, among others.

My goal is to use my knowledge and experience, gathered over many years, to help my clients through whatever business challenges they face.  I counsel my clients with candor and in strict confidence.  My advice is offered not just with an eye on the legal issues presented, but with the client’s tactical and strategic objectives in mind.  I want my clients to gain insight into these legal issues in a way that will empower them to make better and more informed business decisions.

Sometimes, litigation is unavoidable.  When clients find themselves in disputes with others, I help them to understand whether their legal claims or defenses are legitimate and likely to prevail, and whether their expectations are reasonable.  While no lawyer can ever guarantee the ultimate outcome of a law suit, my clients can expect dedicated, motivated, and affordable representation, combined with experience and professionalism.

No lawyer can claim expertise in every area of the law; and no lawyer is the right lawyer for every client.  For that reason, I offer prospective clients an initial consultation at no cost to see if they want to work with me, and to see if I believe I can help them.

To my many clients, thank you for your continuing trust and confidence in me.  To the other readers of this blog, thank you for your interest, and please consider this a personal invitation to contact me to discuss the specific business questions and legal challenges that you face.
